Lead Nature Preschool Teacher

About This Position
The Lead Preschool Teacher is the primary early childhood educator of the teaching team and holds lead responsibility for the one or more preschool classes, managing curriculum development, implementation, and family communications for students. They are responsible for designing educational experiences for nature preschool students in accordance with Mass Audubon’s Action Agenda strategic goals and Mass Audubon’s education frameworks, guidelines, and policies. Lead Preschool Teacher candidates must possess a strong respect for young children and families, a love of teaching young children and a strong desire to connect children and nature and teaching outside. Lead Teachers must possess the ability to plan daily multi-sensory, play and nature-based, anti-bias, emergent and developmentally appropriate curriculum, incorporating a variety of hands-on experiences. The Lead Teacher is the primary contact for families in the class, prepares progress reports, parent-teacher team conferences and maintains a warm, professional relationship with children, their parents and caregivers.

Full Time Nature Preschool Teacher
Location: Edgartown, MA
Sanctuary: Felix Neck
About This Position
Mass Audubon seeks a MA EEC certified Preschool Teacher for Fern and Feather Nature Preschool at Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary in Edgartown. This EEC licensed Preschool opened in 2019. The preschool will serve Island children ages 2.9 to 5 for full-day preschool programing in alignment with the public school calendar, September to June.

The ideal candidate must possess a love of nature, have experience teaching preschool age children, and be able to spend at least 4 hours outside each day. The teacher will be expected to assist the Lead Teacher as needed and to work with a team of educators to create and implement a multi-sensory, nature-based science curriculum; incorporating emergent language and math skills along with creative arts, music, cooking and the development of social skills, while adhering to Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care regulations and state preschool standards. The position will be full time, year-round, and benefitted with camp and program responsibilities in the summer.
