Direct experience in nature is critical in fostering the next generation of climate leaders.The Schoolyard Ecology program from Harvard Forest provides educators in a variety of settings a practical way to get students outside connecting with nature and growing their appreciation for the benefits that our natural world provides.Through our three protocols about seasonal change, invasive species, and carbon sequestration, educators in informal and formal settings and at all levels K-12 can use what they see in their own schoolyards to get a better understanding of how our climate is changing around New England and ways they can make a difference.

Join us for our Summer Institute at Harvard Forest in Petersham, Massachusetts on August 22nd-23rd.

Day 1 ($50 for new schools and classes) is a deep dive into our three projects. You’ll learn everything you need to get started on one of our projects and get your students out collecting data.

Day 2 is dedicated to our Witness Tree Social Media project (free for all). Come learn how connecting with a tree directly can engage your students in data interpretation like never before.
