We are a small ocean conservation non-profit with a global impact looking for a highly motivated, creative, organized, inclusive individual who wants to loudly and proudly work to grow our communications channels. Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) is based in Plymouth, MA where a team of 10 individuals work to protect the marine mammals who play an integral role in protecting the health of our planet. We are looking for someone to grow our digital, social media, and print communication channels to broaden the voices raised to speak on behalf of protecting the ocean as they view their work through a diverse, equitable, and inclusive lens. The hybrid position is based in Plymouth, MA and affords the right candidate the opportunity to see marine mammals, join our Marine Animal Rescue and Response program, and engage in our education and outreach projects.

Role responsibilities:

Using conservation marketing techniques, create and manage a communications strategy including social media toolkits, digital and print campaigns, and communications calendars to promote the work of WDC.

Create and share creative and compelling content about WDC’s work on multiple platforms including webpages, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and twitter.

Oversee the Communication Specialist to ensure timely delivery of print and digital communications.

Support the creation and distribution of press releases, blogs, emails and other communications.

Using brand guidelines, create promotional materials.

Support the creation and delivery of print communications including newsletters as well as supporter and program materials.

Engage with supporters and followers by monitoring and responding to comments, DM’s, and other inquiries.

Use data to evaluate and improve strategies.

Stay informed of emerging content trends.

Work to improve Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the marine conservation and science field.

What we need you to bring to the table:

Experience using established and emerging social media channels
Experience successfully managing a small team in project-based task completion
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of self-motivation with excellent organizational and creative skills including the ability to reprioritize and pivot as emerging issues develop
Computer literacy and proficiency with software platforms like Adobe Suite (specifically InDesign), Canva and/or other software platforms needed to execute the role
Basic video editing and/or digital media production skills
Enjoyment of working in a fast-paced, evolving and growing environment as part of a small but powerful team
The ability to execute tasks, with accuracy, on tight or unexpected deadlines
Willingness to work some nights and weekends
A passion for positively representing WDC and our mission to a diverse audience
A desire to make diversity, equity and inclusion a priority in their work
Must be able to legally work in the United States
What we’d love you to bring in addition:

Experience working with Microsoft 365, WordPress, Hootsuite (or other social media management platform) and Asana (or other project management platforms) a plus
3–5 years’ work experience in communications, marketing, or a closely related field

Salary

Salary is based on metrics set forward by the Massachusetts Equal Pay Act, so the range for this position is broad depending on the candidate’s level of education, experience, ability to travel, and management responsibilities. As a result, the salary for the position is set at a minimum of $35,000 to a maximum of $60,000 annually.
