NCLI News from the Hill - Media - Grassroots

Our Coalition has made incredible progress in a short time growing from a small core group into a force of 147 organizations representing over 17 million people. The result has been a strong political support for NCLI on Capitol Hill, now with 38 cosponsors in the House and 11 in the Senate. Thank you for your part in making this happen!

We will resume NCLI activities when Congress returns to work in early 2008. In January and February, the Coalition will educate as many Congressional members as possible about the benefits of NCLI.

Since 2008 is an election year, we hope to move our agenda as soon as possible. To do that, we need pressure for NCLI on all fronts.  This means making contacts with congressional members both in Washington and through NCLI activities back home.

Our strongest weapon remains are the 17 million people represented through the Coalition! So, in 2008, please redouble your efforts to get our message to members of Congress and key policymakers!

Long Term Strategy

Our strategy will continue to focus on:
Securing cosponsors in all states.
Working with states to begin developing environmental literacy  plans.
Broadening the Coalition to include groups with an interest in the outdoors, such as recreation, hunting, and fishing, and focused on how these experiences relate to formal education.
Getting state elected officials to pass state resolutions in support of NCLI.
Working with state elected officials to develop state legislation modeled after NCLI.
