2010 Realize Science Technology Grant—$20,000 in Awards


This grant is open to any and all teachers in the United States and Canada.

Each individual teacher awarded this grant will receive a Dlite DISCOVERY Education Kit from STR consisting of a hand-held video microscope with 10-200x Zoom and 15x, 30x, 50x, 150x & 100x/200x fixed magnification tips, software to take still pictures, video, time lapse movies, etc., an adjustable stand and a new DISCOVERY attachment for viewing slides, aquatic samples and more. The software is compatible for Windows PC only. An analog version of Dlite for TV is available as an alternate. Each teacher will also receive 5 curriculum booklets from Real Curriculum with lessons designed to meet both state and national science standards.

The top 5 applicants will receive 4 additional microscope sets, making a total of 5 for their classrooms.

Fifty video microscope kits will be awarded in all, to thirty grant winners.

The deadline for applications is March 31, 2010. Notification of grant awards will be sent out by April 15, 2009. Video microscopes and curriculum books will be delivered by May 31, 2009.

This is a competitive grant based on the quality and value of the applicants intended use. We are looking for creative, innovative and educationally valuable uses of hand-held video microscopes.

The final recipients of this grant are required to submit information after receipt and use of the equipment which may be shared with other teachers and educators to advance the use of this microscope technology in the classroom. Acceptable examples include: lesson plans, testimonials, anecdotal stories and student made work such as artwork/drawings, writings, movies, presentations, multimedia, reports, etc. For those who are awarded the grant the deadline for materials is December 31, 2010.
